I'm Yours

The horn shrieked repeatedly as the car overturned and came to a stop in the middle of the road. He squirmed in his seat, trying to release himself from the firm hold of the band around his waist and his whole body creaked. As he got one hand out, he screamed as the spasm went through his whole body. In the distance, he saw the liquid from the innards of the vehicle start turning orange, and he felt the heat going through his body. He heard the siren blaring in the distance and as he closed his eyes, the darkness enveloped him.

His eyes flickered open and as he tried to raise himself, a pair of hands made him relax and prevented him from straining the multiple plasters which covered his body. Blinking repeatedly to remove the blurriness from his eyes, he gazed intently at the wet face which stood over him.

“Amisha, what are you doing here,” he asked as the face cleared out.

“Just sleep Sameer. We can talk about this later. For now, just rest.”

“What…how…”

“We both know that the last time we talked, 4 years ago, something big had happened and it was really bad. Don’t think about it now, we will talk about it later. For now just rest or I’ll go away right now.”

“Fine. Your bossiness hasn’t gone away yet, has it?”

“Well, your taunting hasn’t gone as well.”

“Now let me rest, will you?”

He closed his eyes as she swept her hand on his forehead, and the last encounter started returning to him.

“Don’t go there now dear, please.”

“I can’t help it Ami, it’s always there with me, I can’t let go of it.”

“Nor can I, nor can I…”

Her words echoed in his head, as he fell back into the past.

“You’re so damn weak Sameer!”

“After so much time, all I get to hear is this! Wow!”

“Then what else can I say? That you can’t understand me?”

“No, I can’t. I can’t understand myself as well. All I care about is me, and nothing else. Fine?”

“That is so right. You’re just a selfish guy who doesn’t care about the world, and especially about me.”

“Anything else? Just say it all at once.”

“Why don’t you ever understand what I mean? Today I came to talk it out so that we could clear it all out, and now we ended up at the same damn point as always!”

“So? Did you say how you wanted things? How you wanted to go about getting there? No, you didn’t! Then how should I understand what I have to do?”

“I just want you to be happy.”

“And I have always told you that I can’t be happy without you.”

“You have to change that, and also the negativity and anger you hold in yourself.”

“That is what I really am, and I cannot change it. I have tried, and even you did, but nothing really happened did it?”

“Fine, remain like this forever. I don’t care. I just wanted to sort things out once and for all, and if you don’t wish to change at all, then there is no point in talking ahead.”

“Okay.”

“I don’t care if you change or remain like this. Do what you want.”

“Of course I will.”

“But yes, remain happy.”

“I can’t without you.”

“Then don’t be.”

“Of course I won’t. And yes, I’m sorting things out my way now. Forget whatever we had, and what we shared. Anyways it was all just sad stuff, so you seriously should. And just forget that I exist, or existed.”

“I don’t want to forget anything. For me, it wasn’t sad, it was good stuff.”

“You want to move on, but you don’t want to forget a single thing, then how in the name of God is it going to happen?”

“I’ll manage all that.”

“Fine. I’m not existing from today for you. But if you have any work, then call me up whatever time it is. I’m always there for my friends, especially you.”

“I don’t need anyone’s help in my life. I can manage life on my own, and very well.”

“Fine. I’m going. I have to get home.”

“No one’s stopping you.”

“Bye.”

As the tear fell down his face, she slowly moved her hand across and wiped it off.

“Please don’t do this to me Ami, I won’t be able to handle it.”

“I won’t let anything happen to you. I am not going away from your side from now.”

“You had said this earlier, and then we both know what happened.”

“I want to marry you. I’m sure of it. I don’t want to let you out of my sight, and I want to take care of you forever. Will you allow me to do that?”

“Do I have an option?”

“Actually you don’t.”

“Then why did you ask?”

“As you say, manners.”

“Hmm…”

“Such a reply. You don’t want me to be with you right?”

“If you say something like that then I will move this fractured hand and I’ll bang this on your head. Of course I want you with me.”

“Miss, what are you doing here? Visitation hours are long since over,” said a nurse as she came into the room.

“I’m the patient’s wife. I will stay here till he’s perfectly fine.”

“Oh, then its fine.”

“What…really,” asked a dazed Sameer.

Her answer was just a smile as she dipped her lips to meet his.
