The night crept on, and she
wept. Her tears flooded the already moist pillow and made sleep impossible. She
had to move on; she had to forget him; but how? She was unknown to the fact
that he had never loved anyone after her, nor he ever would; his heart would
always keep beating for her.
He turned in the darkness, unable
to sleep. Thoughts about her kept
surging through his mind; and he kept thinking about the time he had spent with
her; the long walks, the never-ending talks; the sweet smiles and the coy
meetings. It never left him.
The mobile phone pinged with the
message and announced that it was her. But how could he reply? Forbidden by his
parents to be with his love, he had left her all alone, abandoned. She kept
trying to be with him repeatedly but he had no option. “Why can’t she go? Why
can’t she find someone else to love? Why doesn’t she accept it that it was my
entire fault? Why can’t she accept that I’m bad for her? I’ve just hurt her and
made her cry. I destroyed her happy life and made it hell!! Damn, I still love
her so much. But being with me is bad for her. I know it, I just do.” With
these thoughts, he shut off the phone and did not mind the message which had
brought back all of the feelings and emotions.
She checked the phone for a
reply, but there wasn’t one. The grief strangled her. She decided that she
would never text him again. Nor would she reply. She would forget him, and she
would move ahead in life. She could be what she wanted, and she could have what
she needed, and she did not need him for that. But in herself, she knew she
loved him even after what had happened. And she wanted him with her.
The mixed emotions left behind a trail of sadness and misery. What they
did not know was that there could have been something different. An image thriving
with happiness, smiles, and love.
If only they had tried. If only they had talked. If only they forgot
what had happened. If only they accepted everything and held hands, supporting
the other and keeping themselves happy. If only…
If only this would have never happened...
