Is This Our India?

I have been working the last week on doing a series for the Platinum Love Contest by indiblogger.com and that is soon to come. Also rippled by exams, the time just went on and here came today. I was busy enjoying Yeh Jawani Hai Diwani on Sony TV when my mother came back from an evening stroll. Well, this post is about what she witnessed at some distance from our house.

A man and his wife were going back home after a nice evening in the park, and as they pulled out their vehicle this mishap took place. A tempo passed them and there was a slight confrontation which took place (my mom did not see the whole event so the reason is unknown). The man (driver) and his two partners got down from the tempo and all hell went berserk.

One of the men went behind the woman and got hold of her neck, literally, and in an extremely provocative and violent way. At the same time, the other man went behind the poor husband who was trying to get his wits together. A violent scuff ensued and soon the trio caught an auto rickshaw and leaving the tempo behind, forced the driver to drive away, and escaped from the crime scene.

Well, and this is not it. As the disheveled couple got on their bike to drive home with this ghastly experience in mind, the woman noticed a wet patch on her husband's stomach. Her world stood still as her hand displayed the red flowing out of a gash. On closer examination, it came to light that the husband had been slashed with a knife, or another sharp object. The man was then rushed to a nearby doctor and passersby helped him out as well.

I have no information about the assailants, or of their identities, or I would post them here.

Well, is this our India? Can we say we are united? That we are a safe nation?

After hearing this horrifying incident I just have to bow my head low. There is nothing I can say to argue that our nation is safe, and that people, and women can go out safely. I just bow my head in shame and disgust.

  2. :( very sad Karan, you are bringing it to our notice but if we look around it happens every where in India. People are harsh to each other for no good reason. there is dim light of hope that it will get changed in our generation and the next to come by. or i may be wrong. However hopefully we will educate the young minds about life and morals. Thanks for bringing this to our notice.

    Regards

  3. This is so scary! And even scarier that it happened near your home, around the presence of your mother. I hope everybody is safe.

  8. You're saying this happened in the evening??? As in, when the roads and parks are crowded??
I went through a similar incident once (was robbed at knife-point), but that was after a night-shift in office. Not when there were witnesses around. I still get chills when I think of that night... The worst was the attitude of the police. They told me in indirect terms, they would help me nab the thieves, if I bribed them! Can you believe that?
This is truly bad. I don't know how this will change. The countries laws need to be more strict.
